In broad terms, the polynomial method is the idea of understanding a set of points, for example in euclidean space, by studying the properties of polynomials vanishing on that set. This is in essence an elementary method, that has nevertheless shown to be a very powerful principle leading to a large number of breakthroughs in different areas, many of them quite recent. In this talk, I will explain its main concepts and applications.
